“It is an honor to be able to support the MetroWest Free Medical Program in memory of my father, Dr. “Bud” Hurwitz.
Working to establish the clinic at Temple Beth El in Sudbury in the early 2000s was a labor of love for Dad. He believed in “tikkun olam”— working to repair the world. As he slowed down his work at his orthopedic practice in Marlborough, he put his energies into making sure adequate medical care was available to all— establishing the clinic, volunteering weekly, obtaining supplies and recruiting other medical providers. Even after Dad moved from Sudbury to Dedham, he drove to the clinic weekly to care for others; he did this until he had to give up driving at the age of 85. When he passed away in late 2020, it was the Clinic and his medical school that my siblings and I felt were where Dad would best be honored. He would be delighted to know that the clinic has survived the pandemic and providers are back seeing patients in person.
It is my pleasure to honor his memory with a gift to the clinic.”
